Dear Physics 129 students:

Solutions to the 1st homework are posted.

I recommend that you always take a look at the posted solutions,
even if you had no trouble completing the assignment on your own.
The reason is that in software there are many ways of 
doing the same thing, and there is a lot to learn by
looking at other people's approaches.

On another subject.  Yesterday I was talking to a student
with little previous unix experience.  He was a bit 
confused by the concepts of
* environmental variables
* how the PATH environmental variable works
* absolute and relative directory names

These are important concepts that you need to become 
comfortable with.  In the first 2-3 sessions we covered
much of the material in the first 11 chapters of the 
free linux textbook linked on the website.  But we 
we went superfast -- by necessity since we only
have 10 weeks total.  If you are new to linux/unix
I strongly recommend that you review those chapters.
